This provides an option of making your own assumptions on the failure behavior and causes of suspect curves rather than solely relying on the interpretation of the indenter user. Following curve review and selection, they were then analyzed to extract the mechanical property profiles. The biaxial stress results are presented below in Figure 3.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Full Bio Troy has a Bachelor of Applied Physics and a Masters in Industrial Engineering with a specialization in knowledge-based expert systems and functional coatings. Since 1999 he has worked with industry leaders MDS Coating Technologies, Oerlikon and Sutton Tools, during which time he has refined his expertise in coating design, simulation and manufacture via various plasma deposition technologies. Troy has developed protective coatings and technologies and has applied his extensive experience in heat treatment, plasma nitriding and pre/post treatment within the cutting tool, aerospace, automotive and solar industries. He has guided R&amp;D teams with a focus on bringing products to market and implementing ‘Innovation as a system’ across a business. Troy is a passionate solution finder and values openness, curiosity and personal/professional growth. He became a Physicist via a desire “to discover the principles of nature to enrich lives and leave a lasting positive impact”.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>The combination of ALD and PVD without breaking vacuum offer several advantages to fabricate advanced materials with tailored functionalities and properties. One of the primary benefits is the ability to achieve high-quality interfaces between the different layers of the coating material. The introduction of very conformal and pinhole-free films via ALD can stabilize the grain size of the PVD layers and hinder grain growth, which translates to improved mechanical and thermal properties. Additionally, the material is not exposed to air and therefore there is no risk of contamination or oxidation. Since both ALD and PVD can deposit materials with atomic-level precision, combining the two techniques can allow for the creation of highly complex structures with unique properties that cannot be achieved using other methods. Combining ALD and PVD without breaking vacuum can be a powerful approach to creating advanced materials with tailored functionalities and properties for a wide range of applications, including those in the semiconductor industry, optical coatings, hard coatings, and medical industry among others.</image:caption>
